Background photo LinkedIn offers this tool as an option. Pick a picture you find interesting or if you are an artist or architect, why not add one of your projects' photo? It gives your profile a nice look and impression.
Languages If you do reside in the UK, make sure you add a profile in the English language. Just remember to check the different profiles/languages as the updates are not always automated, specially where you add free text.
Your place of residence and place of work A lot of people commute into London for work. If this is your case and you intend to work in London, make sure you put London in your profile as your city. This will help your profile come up on searches within the city.
Create your LinkedIn URL It may seem silly or unnecessary, however it does look better and increases your chances of appearing on someone's search. Pick a name closest to your own and avoid nicknames or names you aren't very well known as. It is easier than it seems and is free.
Use only skills that are recognised by LinkedIn LinkedIn has a wide range of skills and if you chose one that isn't relevant to their searches it won't help your profile stand out.
If you type the skill and a suggestion doesn't come up it may be that there is a typo or it is not a well known skill.
